With holidays, we can escape temporarily from the hustle and bustle of the busy life; with holidays, we can work while anticipating anxiously for the limited break; with holidays, we can recharge our energy to get back at work with a refreshed mind. Therefore, holidays become so indispensable that some people argue that employees should have at least four weeks of holidays to work better. Despite how desirable this proposal may sound, I personally hold that this argument is not indisputable.

  To begin with, an excessive holidays of four weeks will lead to the lapse in work. Employees, who are absent from work for over a month, would find it hard to pick up the work from where they left behind. Based on the scientific research, human's memory about a task decrease sharply after one week and the impression will drop to the bottom within a month. Therefore, a one-month holiday will not bring about the satisfactory result but rather decrease in terms of the work efficiency.

  From the perspective of the firms, it may not be a win-win strategy if a company gives holidays of four weeks per year to its employees.Most companies have busy periods or seasons in which employees may have to work harder and longer. During these times, holidays or vacation will not be allowed or encouraged. The financial health of the company must be balanced with the mental well-being of the employees. Granted, the welfare of staff are meant to be taken into account. As human beings are not machines, we sometimes need time to recharge ourselves. A rested and refreshed employee who is not weary will perform at higher levels than a tired or disgruntled employee.

  To sum up, there should probably be an equal balance between companies and employees regarding holidays. The amount of holiday time and the time when those holidays can be used should be determined when the employee starts that job with the company. Although four weeks of holiday is not an unreasonably amount, the company and the employee will have to determine whether that is a reasonably amount and how quickly the employee will be eligible to take those holidays.
