Part 1

l  Mathematics

When did you start learning Math?

When I was studying in my elementary school, I first learned math. In China, all the students in that age start their Math class, which is a compulsory course in our syllabus. After that, when I attended my middle school, some complex math knowledge were imparted, like rules or formulations related to geometry, algebra.

*混合时态句型:when I was doing… I did…  在。。。期间我去做了某事

*impart 教授,传授 (常和knowledge搭配,impart knowledge,传授知识)

Is Math difficult for you to learn?

At the beginning, the math was not a tough course for me, and I still remember that I won math competition in my elementary school. But when it comes to intermediate level of math, I found it was kinda complex, especially algebra. I used to be confused about the various formulations. But I was pretty good at geometry, and I almost got the full score in such test.

*I still remember that 宾语从句,常用来描述过去的事情

*when it comes to… 连接词,引导词,意为“当提到。。。当谈到。。。时,关于/对于。。。)

Do you like to use calculator?

Well, I suppose nobody dislike using calculators, especially when doing complex math questions, and so do I. But when I was in my middle school, calculator was not allowed to use as counting by mind or using the appropriate formulations to calculate are the key aspect that we had to practice in that stage.

l  Vegetables and fruits

What’s your favourite vegetable and fruit?

Personally, I am fond of Bok choy, especially bok choy stired fried with dried mushrooms, which tastes really good, and bok choy contains vitamins and chlorophyll in high. As to fruit, well, hardly could I find one that pops into my mind, because I rarely eat fruit. Normally I prefer drinking fruit juice. If I have to get one, well, I would choose watermelon.

*…contains vitamins and chlorophyll in high (某蔬菜水果)含有大量的维生素和叶绿素

* pops into my mind  出现在/闪现在我的脑海里

Are there any special fruit in your hometown?

Let me think… well, it seems that all the fruits available in my hometown can be easily got in other places as the modern transportation enables all kinds of fruits even fruits from overseas to be sold everywhere, providing people with convenience in their daily life. So, there is nothing special fruit in my hometown.

Should we eat vegetables every day?

Well, I think we should, cos vegetables are really helpful in contributing to our health. We can intake abundant vitamins, fibers and other nutrition’s from eating vegetables. It doesn’t mean we should do eat it every day, like a kind of task when having our meal. I reckon eating vegetable every day is a kind of recommendation that people have better to do.

Part 2

Describe a situation you waited for something.

You should say:

     when and where it happened;

     what you waited for;

     how long you waited for it;

and explain how you felt about waiting.

Well, what I’ve decided to talk about is the time I waited for a boat at the Xuanwu Lake in Nanjing. And as for when this happened, well I suppose it must have been about two or three months ago by now, and it was on a weekend, so we kind of knew that there would be a long queue for the boats!

When we got there, we were told that there would be a wait of about an hour or so, at least, which was what we pretty much expected. But we didn’t feel like twiddling our thumbs and hanging around for an hour doing nothing, so instead, what we actually decided to do was to get a ticket number first and then go for a walk around the lake, have lunch and then come back again in the afternoon.

And I’m glad to say that, when we went back later and showed the guy our ticket, he told us we could get on the next boat. So we felt pretty good about it, and it was quite a relief as well, cos I mean, he could have told us that we missed our turn and would have to get another ticket number, you know, like they do in the bank. But thankfully, he took pity on us, especially after I’d said that we had waited for about 4 hours! So, it all worked out pretty well for us, cos we almost immediately got onto a boat. I’m not sure the other people waiting were very impressed, cos it kind of looked like we were queue barging, but anyway, that’s basically what happened!

Notes:

queue–队伍(it can be used as a noun or verb)

wait – here it is used as a noun

it was what we pretty much expected. – 跟我们想象的差不多一样

twiddling our thumbs – do nothing, 无所作为 (抚弄大拇指)

hanging around -闲呆着

it was quite a relief -令人庆幸,让我们松了一口气

he took pity on us – 他同情了我们

it all worked out pretty well for us - 最终结果不错

queue barging – jumping the queue, 插队

Part 3

Do you think patience is important?

Of course, yes! To be patient can help people to get ultimate success. There is an adage says that those who could laugh at the end would be the ultimate winner, which indirectly tells us the importance of patience. When dealing with issues in business, negotiations, law suits and something complex like that, being patient is beneficial for people well analyzing the whole issue with careful and prudent attitude, which may assist them to find the remedy, rivals negligence, avoiding carelessness and relevant mistakes that they might have.

Why is it difficult for children to be patient?

Well, I guess it’s probably because of the nature of children. By that I mean, children are likely to do things in a hurry and eager to see results immediately. So they tend to not prepare well for doing something especially for some complex projects. Besides that, sometimes children’s impatience could be due to their less experience. For example, when persuading someone, clearly presenting opinions and well explaining the reasons with patience are significant, and the counterpart often need some time to think, which doesn’t mean they object your idea. At this time, patience is likely to work to help you get the things done. Otherwise, you will lose your chance that originally you might have.

How to teach children patience?

Um, honestly, I don’t have any experience in training children to become more patient. Let me see, …, well, on one hand, good examples are always functional. Parents can take advantages of the role model to teach children to be patient when doing things. On the other hand, parents could blame their children of impatience that results in the negligence or mistakes.

Would you easily feel angry when you wait for a long time?

I would say I was, especially when I believe someone shouldn’t have been late for quite a long time. But I didn’t express my feeling apparently, and I used to wait for the late person to explain the reason. Normally I would accept their apology. If I still couldn’t accept their explanations, I would try not to make an appointment with the one to do stuff next time.

Have you ever been late for meeting someone?

Yes, I have, but not very often. Sometimes I was late for my appointment. I didn’t intend to do that. In fact, every time I have been used to set time aside to avoid the late, but the problem seemed to be always complex than I thought. I have no idea that why I used to come across something unexpected happened. Anyway, I think my past experiences reflect that I haven’t prepared well. So, in the future, I will leave more time in every steps to avoid being late.
