Some people think that the main purposeof schools is to turn children into good citizens and workers, rather tobenefit them as individuals. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Introduction:
It is not easy to be objective about thefunction of education. Some are favor of the idea that the main responsibilityof schools is to help children to be good social members but not benefitchildren themselves.

现在学校开设不同的课程(design asignificant number of courses):文学、数学、生物、化学、物理、哲学等这些开发和培养学生多方面的能力(students’ talents and gifts could be substantially explored and developed)。学生根据自己的兴趣和能力选择相应课程。通过整个受教过程可以很好得培养学生在这些领域的能力(make greatachievements in those fields),并帮助他们在毕业后能在激烈的职业竞争中脱颖而出,这一点在大学教育的专业(major)中很好的体现出来了。所以,是教育让学生实现personal ambitions成为了可能。

成为一个useful socialmember首先要做一个good citizen with noble morality,而道德教育的确是学校教育的另一个除了academic education 之外的责任,来培养学生正确的是非观。但是,a qualified social member也要由他们对社会的贡献通常表现为工作来决定。而良好工作的表现所需要的一系列专业知识技能也是由学校教育所提供的。
结尾:两者并不矛盾。
My view is that cultivating students to be usefulsocial members seems not mutually exclusive with benefiting the achievement oftheir ambitions.
