The number of people taking part in a wildlife survey in Britain between2001 and 2009.

Mark Forest from West Kirby has been sentenced to 25 hours’ communityservice for robbing a local newsagent. Mark, who is 16, walked into the shop onBroad Street and stole $75 from the till. He also threatened the shop owner,Mr. Keith Perry.

Introduction

Para 1

In recent years, the record of crime rate has been constantly renewed. Agrowing number of people have begun to challenge against the existing practiceof sending criminals to prison. They argue that the law offenders should bepunished to do something for the public. It is quite natural that people seldomreach a total agreement on such a controversial issue.

Body

Para 2

Some people advocate that we should let criminals do something else aspunishment. In the first place, they can get better reclamation in this way.Doing something for society is a good measure, which not only punishes thecriminals but also encourages them to begin a new life as well. Another reasonis due to the limited jail space. Letting criminals do something outside jailsdecreases the cost of the government. Finally, the imprisonment of criminalscannot scare off the criminals. Up to now, there is no evidence showing thedirect link between the implementation of imprisoning criminals and the declineof crime rate.

Para 3

Some others approve of the imprisonment of criminals. First of all, itcan ensure a safe living environment to the law-abiding citizens. For criminalslike thieves, robbers, rapists or even murders, it is improper or evendangerous to let them out of jails, because they still pose threats to our society.Second, it is the best deterrent to those potential criminals. It will makewould-be criminals think twice before they commit a crime. Last but not least,it is a great spiritual consolation to the victims. Those who suggest settingcriminals free lay too much emphasis on the rights of criminals. They ignorethe rights of victim.

Conclusion

Para 4

All the above opinions make sense. After careful consideration, i am infavour of the latter view that we should retain the practice of sendingcriminals to prison. It can guarantee the safety of citizens. It can reduce thecrime rate. Furthermore, it serves a punishment for the merciless offenderswhile a comfort to the innocent victims.
