思路 | 考生可描述的建筑可以是图书馆(library)、博物馆(museum)、艺术馆(art gallery)，也可以是城市的一个地标类建筑(landmark)，如苏州的“东方之门”或上海的“东方明珠”。而一栋建筑的unusual之处可以体现在其外在造型之独到，或内部装修风格之特别。如果以上几种思路考生依旧找不到熟悉的对象描述，亦可另辟蹊径，找一幢自己最熟悉的建筑物作为讨论对象，而将其unusual的理由与自己的成长经历或者是特别的回忆联系起来，所以这个building也可以是你的小学教学楼(teaching building)，或者你童年长大的一个四合院(courtyard house)。 |

As far as I can remember, the most extraordinary construction I’ve ever seen is the library of my university. Situated in the southeast part of the campus, the library is always an eye-catcher when visitors stroll around our university. The library is renowned as the “Asian largest library built on water”. Although it isn’t technically constructed on the water surface, since it is surrounded by several pools, and if you observe it from a distance, it seems quite like that the building is floating on the water, and that’s where the reputation comes from.
Speaking of the appearance of the library, the integral shape of the building is like a thick book lying on the grass, which can be described as odd-shaped in Chinese architecture. The walls are basically in earth tones, like brown, tan, warm grey, ginger and green, so even though the shape of the building is bold, it doesn’t look unacceptable at first sight because of its harmonious colors with the background.
The exterior is gorgeous and the interior is neat as well. As the building has very high ceilings, and the west and east walls are wrapped in glass, the whole place is quite light and airy. On top of that, the internal layout of the building is very organized. There are basic sections of a library here such as the circulation desk, the reading room, close reserve, photocopy room, computer lab and audio-visual resource center. All in all the construction style is both solemn and plush.
The library is a famous landmark of the university, and also a treasure of the students. It provides the students with cozy and refreshing atmosphere, but for me it’s more than just a place to study, it contains nostalgic memories of my four-year campus life. If you got the chance to see it, I bet you won’t forget it for your whole life. |
